Teris Attack as a sliding puzzlesGenre: puzzle - blocks
Publisher: Namco
Year: 1990
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Plays like Tetris Attack, but as a sliding puzzle. In other words, you can move a single tile at a time to try making a set of three to five tiles. This considerably limits what you can do. It's important to avoid making stacks of tiles as this creates tall isolated stacks which can't be dealt with since you can't move their tiles. Ultimately, this makes the game pretty boring. I was glad to be done with it.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Only two modes, and they play exactly the same way, so I don't know what the difference is supposed to be. Also, there's no items or power ups or anything like that, so every "level" and round feels the same.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
A tiny anime head at the bottom of the screen reacts to onscreen activities. That's the extent of the presentation.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Colorful, but kind of flat and interesting. The tiles have a little icon. Looks like a mid 80s arcade game.
Audio Score: 1
Audio Notes:
Ear piercing sound effects. Moving tiles plays a sound reminiscent of a single note on a steel drum. Now imagine this every half second for 10 minutes straight.
