Moto Roader II
Drive upwardGenre: racing - overhead
Publisher: Masaya
Year: 1991
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Massive improvement over the first game, and the copycats like Deko Boko. It's basically a 5 player Micro Machines head-to-head mode played in slow motion and with R.C. Pro-Am vehicle customizations and offensive weapons. It's not as good as that sounds, but it's bad either. Would be a decent party game with 5 players.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Tracks only have cosmetic differences and few surprises. You always drive upward and make turns when they appear. Occassionally you'll be warned about rocks or other obstacles in your way but most of the time your opponents are the only thing to think about. There's only one mode, making this feel like an arcade game.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
It's cute. Sexy anime girls are on several menus for no apparent reason. There's so little variety in the tracks and biomes that I can't make out what the setting is supposed to be. Is it post-apocalyptic, neo-Tokyo, cyberpunk? Are these real vehicles or RC cars? Who knows
