Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Nice speed, five satisfying weapons and crazy amounts of powerups. This is a near-perfect vertical shooter save for one problem - the insane difficulty. Dying brings you back immediately which is more a curse than a blessing because it's nearly impossible to stay alive without full power. Thankfully you've got four units of health but health pickups are rare. Easily one of the most challenging shooters of the era. Difficulty settings would've been nice.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Stages are LOOOONG and intense!! There's a lot of repetition and enemy reuse but there's enough variety that it's worth it. Bosses are surprisingly easy.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Love the intro, but that's about it. Almost no break in the action between stages.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Great pixel art, although everything starts looking samey after a while. Insane amoutn of sprites on screen without any slowdown, which would actually be helpful.
Audio Score: 5
Audio Notes:
Fantastic, fun and frantic music. Sound effects are perfect, given how much is going on at any given time.
Overall Score: 82
