Prince of Persia
PoP goes this weaselGenre: adventure - platform
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1992
System: Sega CD
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
All versions of PoP have laggy inputs, but this is ridiculous. Ths is by far the least playable of the 16-bit versions of this title. Press far, far sooner than you think you should and hope that the game does it.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
The levels seem designed to highlight rather than minimize the game's warts. Climbing and descending platforms and jumps are ridiculously tough in this game but the levels seemed designed to make these two things even more difficult. There's also a 2 hour timer. I guess it gives some urgency but I find it distracting. I'm already playing your dumb game, I don't need motivation to keep going, sheesh.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Save the girl from the evil dude. Even so this is a stone cold classic setting.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Also the ugliest 16-bit version of the game. There's far less detail than then SNES or Genesis versions and the animation is subpar as well. It looks almost cartoonish. What happened here?
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Decent music, but with some weird instrumentation that doesn't fit with the Persian theme. The PC Engine CD has the best soundtrack.
Overall Score: 39
