Rabio Lepus Special
2D Jumping FlashGenre: shooter - horizontal
Publisher: Video System
Year: 1990
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Very tough, owing to slow movement and fast enemies that are damage sponges. Zero weapon upgrades. It's a nice peashooter, but it's still a peashooter. the secondary weapon almost makes up for it. It's a volley of homing missiles which act as a shield and a weapon. Kind of a desparation move. Ammo is limited but can be acquired during a level. The controls are good, so this game has a great foundation, but it suffers from poor weapons. One fun inclusion is a rabbit punch which knocks enemies away swho are too close to you. It happens automatically and prevents damage from collision. Pretty cool.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Nothing too special. Just fly to the right and handle the waves of enemies. Each stage has a mini boss, although they mostly stay on the right said and move up and down occasionally.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
You're a bunny rabbit. Enemies don't go hard into the cute-em-up territory but most of them fit the theme. Presentation is minimal, despite the novel characters. Still, I like mixing things up with some furry friends instead of yet another space shooter.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Great framerate. Backgrounds have depth but no parallax. Beautiful sprite work and great use of bold colors. Good effects as well
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Fun, energetic music. Soft, pleasant sound effects that don't overshadow the music.
