Sewer Shark
Shoot the tubes Dogmeat!!Genre: shooter - gallery
Publisher: Sony Imagesoft
Year: 1992
System: Sega CD
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
I had to find the manual online to figure out how to pilot the craft. There's a directional indicator which flashes, and you have to hold B and press the d-pad in that direction. Unintuitive, but ok. My wingman constantly yells at me for going the wrong way! The tiny screen makes it somewhat easy to move the reticle to a target, although they're even not on screen long enough to hit them.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
One death and it's game over. I couldn't finish a level as it seemed to never end. Plus, there seems to be no benefit for shooting them. You can seemingly fly forever without killing a single enemy. I don't get it. The level design, such as it is, is simply a repeat of enemies spawing and the the random turns. It's quite boring.
Theme Score: 1
Theme Notes:
You're the pilot of a futuristic sewer cleaning robot. Imagine piloting the hovercrafts from the Matrix while shooting huge rats. Yeah, not too appealing.
Art Style Score: 0
Art Style Notes:
Tiny viewport. Horrible low-res visuals. A pallete consisting of only brown and black. And repetitive animations.
Audio Score: 0
Audio Notes:
Music and sound effects are an affront to nature. If I had to guess I'd say the Genesis is handling everything but the voice track. Every other track sounds like a bad example of the burps and farts that so often emanate from Sega's console. I can't listen to this game more than a couple of minutes. It's ear-splitting!
