Sonic Eraser
Sonic blocksGenre: puzzle - blocks
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1991
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Multi-colored blocks fall in sets of 4. Rotating them feels random, or at least unintuitive. Thankfully, you only need to connect two blocks, but you still can only aim to make one - MAYBE two blocks - per drop. So you wind up with far more garbage than in most block games. I don't think I'll ever revisit this one.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Lots of modes, although they all have an time limit. WHY would any of these games need a timer? So dumb. The modes have strange labels, including: 1P AND 2P (not sure why this mentions 2P since all modes are single player) - Round Mode - clear a special set of pieces (this mode sucks as it's easy to get one piece leftover which is basically a soft lock) - Normal Mode - duh - Doubt Mode - stupid, sometimes pieces randomly change - Block Mode - The blocks of four pieces don't fall apart. Impossible. 1P VS 2P - two player battle mode 1P VS COMP - two player battle mode against the CPU
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Sonic is tacked on. His presence makes no sense.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Extremely basic. Black background. Not much going on here. There are a handful of Sonic animations that play when you drop bad piece on your opponent, but that's the only interesting graphics.
Audio Score: 0
Audio Notes:
Horrendous music and sound. After a bout 3 minutes my wife turned around and asked me to turn off the awful sound.
