Wonder Momo
It's no wonderGenre: action - punch n kick
Publisher: Namco
Year: 1989
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Laggy controls and bad hit detection, but decent range on your attacks. The key is to kill enemies as quickly as possible to prevent them from swarming you. Kick and jump kick. Terrible scrolling with only 10% draw distance. A whirlwind appears to power you up. A hula hoop bounces in and can be thrown. A final pickup makes you invincible and kills everything on screen for a good 10 seconds.
Level Design Score: 0
Level Design Notes:
Zero design. Each level is perhaps two screens wide but enemies spawn in without scrolling so there's no need to move. It's a single screen brawler. A boss enemy appears after about 30 seconds. Kill it and the stage ends, regales of what else is on screen.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
It's unique, I'll give it that. You're some sort of performer with a crowd at the bottom of the screen, Paper Mario style. Between stages you get a PG rated fan service moment. Weird.
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Very very very basic 8 bit artwork. Flat, simple backgrounds. Minimal animation.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Like the artwork, the music is simple. It's cute, in an early 80s arcade game.
Overall Score: 18
