Asuka 120% Maxima for PCE CD
Review #11007
Asuka 120% Maxima
Where'd this come from?
Gameplay
Crunchy attacks that deal heavy damage, knocking enemies across the screen or dealing multiple hits.
Easy to pull off special moves.
Responsive controls.
Feels great.
10 fighters with wildly varied styles.
You can even combo and parry and block projectiles. There's a lot of depth here.
Level Design
Ho hum. Almost no animations in the background. Boring settings in high school style arenas.
Theme
Another mostly girls fighting roster. The Japanese sure loved these things. Long cutscenes (no video, mind you) tell a story in all Japanese with a ton of voice acting and on screen text.
Art Style
The sprites and moves love and move great. Not NeoGeo quality, but better than most 16-bit fighters. The backgrounds are rather boring, but well drawn.
Audio
Nice, upbeat music that would fit in any arcade figuring game. The incessant voices get old after a while though.
