Gameplay

There's a lot to like here. Controls are responsive and simple. One button to jump and another to attack. You can combo attack enemies or grab and punch or throw them by holding up and attacking. When not holding the same performs a roundhouse kick or uppercut. There's also a jump kick. When a power meter is filled you can transform into a battle suit to deal slightly more damage. So the combat isn't bad.

However, I have three complaints. First, movement is slow. This is true for both you and enemies but given how tiny the sprites are it means much of the game is simply walking until you reach a new enemy. This is RoboCop for NES speed.

Second, enemies are damage sponges. You have to deal 20 or more hits on every one. This would be acceptable if it weren't for my final complaint, which is the enemy AI. Enemies gang up and stun lock you as there are no i-frames and they love to hit you as you get up off the ground. You can lose half your health bar from going down just once. It's a dance to try to keep the enemies isolated.

Level Design

Boring as could be. There are never more than three enemies at once (thank goodness) but the severe lack of variety leads to quick boredom. There are no environmental elements and nothing to be interacted with other than the same three enemies over and over again.

Theme

Generic. Choose between a young man and woman and get to work. Cutscenes tell (not show) the story and reuse the same artwork each time. Only the Japanese text is different in each cutscene.

Art Style

Teeny tiny sprites, but they're colorful and adorable. Looks like an SD Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I'm being generous here but I liked the art direction in this game.

Audio

The music is kind of goofy but I like it. It fits the theme perfectly. Unfortunately the sounds loop so quickly that they get on your nerves after a while. Longer songs would've helped quite a bit.
