Advanced Daisenryaku - Deutsch Dengeki Sakusen

Out of Ammo

Genre: strategy - turn-based tactics

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1991

System: MD

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

It looks and feels a lot like Military Madness, but the play mechanics are completely broken. There are three main problems: first, movement is slow; second, units have a tiny amount of ammo and must be resupplied at occupied towns; and third, attacks rarely deal damage. All told, that means you can barely move away from your HQ. A few other annoyances add to the frustration.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Like MM, only infantry or cavalry units can capture towns or HQs, which is where your units can resupply or rearm. This means you need to carefully defend these tiles by leaving a unit there. You can only have 8 units so the number of attackers is limited by the number of towns you own. I couldn't even finish the first map, and I'll never try again.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

You're the Nazis in the early days of WW2. Hoo boy. I never thought I'd play a game as Hitler. It's no wonder this game wasn't released outside of Japan.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Very basic overhead artwork. The battles have minimal animation which pales in comparison to Military Madness and Advance Wars.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

The military march music repeats quickly and got on my nerves as a few minutes.

Overall Score: 31
