Aworg for MD
Review #6003
Aworg
Flappy Dude
Gameplay
Plays like Joust, Balloon Kid, Solar Jetman, and that annoying underwater stage on Earthworm Jim. In other words, gravity and momentum based hover simulator. In addition to your booster you have a dash with a long windup and a spinning attack. Both of these are offensive weapons with the spin using up health so it's limited use. Everything works surprising well but could e been fleshed out more than it was. No new mechanics are added during the game.
Level Design
Ten short levels, one boss fight, and it's game over. I beat this my first time trying with little difficulty. Ever stage is roughly the same with the same the keys to find, the same three enemy types and no new mechanics or obstacles ever introduced.
Theme
The game begins with a wall of Japanese text explaining the controls and never gets more exciting from there. Even the final (and only) boss is boring as sin. He's just a ball cloud. Oh and you're a blue spaceman flapping fans to say aloft. Do not show this one to your friends or they'll laugh at you.
Art Style
Rudimentary at best. Every stage uses the same assets and tiles for an interesting style.
Audio
The music isn't terrible but there's only one song during the 9.stsges plus a boss theme. The main theme gets old quickly. Sound effects have a certain charm.
