Dynastic Hero, The

Better Bikkuriman World

Genre: adventure - platform

Publisher: TTI

Year: 1993

System: TG-16 CD

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Looks and plays just like the Genesis version. Super slow movement. Slightly slippery controls. Attacks have a limited range although you can purchase new weapons in shops. Plays a bit like a side scroller Zelda game. You spend a lot of time farming money from enemies which respawn almost immediately. Lots of platforming and light puzzles which mostly involve talking to the right person who tells you what to do next. Seems pretty linear.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Typical hack and slash platformer. The levels have strange gates. I got lost almost immediately and used a guide to progress. That said, each area is distinct and fun to visit, even if the gameplay mechanics don't vary or develop much.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Super cute. Nauseatingly cute, even. The plot is paper thin but the game's cuteness is inviting despite the simple gameplay. This one features a different set of characters, presumably because Sega didn't want Wonder Boy on a different console by the time this version came out.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Again, super duper cute. It's incredibly simple with almost not special effects but the world is bright, colorful, and warm. Even more colorful than the Genesis version.

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

I REALLY like the soundtrack of this game. I don't know what it is exactly, but the quality is fantastic. Far suprior to both the Genesis and PCE versions, both of which I liked.

Overall Score: 72
