Private eye dol
Eye don't know what to doGenre: adventure - overhead
Publisher: NEC
Year: 1995
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Movement is similar to Zelda and other overhead adventure titles like it. However, there's nothing much to do besides walk along the walls while mashing the 2 button in hopes of finding something that can be interacted with. There are no visual cues about what will trigger an interaction. This is quite literally the only thing that I did during my hour plus of playtime. Movement felt fine although it's only for directional movement. And when you meet a wall you start hugging the wall as in Star Ocean.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
I walked around the first area (a spooky house) for an hour. I visited every room, mashed 2 to interact with everything and talked to every NPC multiple times. Try as I might I could not advance the plot. No walkthrough exists so I gave up. What a terribly designed game.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
You're a crew of young and attractive girls filming a slasher movie at a spooky mansion during a sudden storm. I expected it to devolve into a creepy NSFW exhibition but it seems like it's a legit detective story. If only I could advance the story!!
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Beautifully drawn cutscenes and character artwork is combined with so so pixel artwork. Overall I like the style so props for making a visually interesting game.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
The same song plays incessantly. It gives off a decent spooky vibe but loops so quickly and plays for so long that I bored of it quickly. Then again maybe that's because I couldn't get anywhere in the game.
Overall Score: 43
