Power Golf 2 for PCE CD

Power Golf 2
Don't mind the misleading cover art
Gameplay
Not too shabby. This is probably my favorite of the stuffy PGA-themed golf titles. It's UI is built for a mouse but the controller mode works just fine. What I like most is that all changes to direction, foot position, and whatever are optional, always-present options. You aren't forced to make a selection on every stroke. Also, the game picks the right club for you and give you the info on screen to decide what to do. I'm not crazy about the shot UI, as it requires three button presses, but it's better than most. The power selector is nice and slow with a bunch of lines to help get the exact percentage that you're aiming for. The final two clicks determine the horizontal and vertical placement on the ball. The line moves quickly but I found it relatively easy to hit where I want to.
The only real problem is the painfully slow pace. After hitting the ball you're treated to 20 seconds of animation showing the ball fly, bounce, bounce, bounce, and roll to the pin. The screen redraws for each of these animations, resulting in a long and labored journey for your golf ball. If not for this I'd give the gameplay a solid 4.
Level Design
All the usual modes plus 10 different courses!! Talk about replayability.
Theme
This is PGA at its most hoity-toity. You must speak properly and carry yourself with grace and poise while playing it. Pip pip
Art Style
the redraw issue is a major bummer, but the actual look of the game is far more attractive than most of the realistic golf games. this one has bold colors, simple artwork without ugly polygons or dithered artwork, and a compact but readable UI.
Audio
No music beyond a great arcadey title screen theme. In game all you've got are ambient noises of birds chirping and wind blowing. Riveting stuff
