Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing

Insert ear joke here

Genre: fighting - boxing

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Good luck landing a punch. This is a button masher, plain and simple. No idea how to play this well.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition and career

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Holyfield is one of the better boxers to get his mug on a Genesis game. Props for picking a stud. Also the presentation is decent with a quick exhibition and boxer selection.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Distinct effect makes the background crowd rotate as you pan horizontally. It's impressive at first but sort of distracting. It's memorable anyway. View is directly from side. Sprites are huge and well drawn. They don't animate. All movement is made in a single frame.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Horrible sounds effects. Landing punches sounds like hail landing on a beach. Grunts are not attractive either. The crowd sounds like an Atari 2600 game that I just can't place. Music on the title screen is not too shabby but everything else is pretty bad

Overall Score: 29
