Gameplay

Major improvement over GB 2, but still not good. Enemies are too aggressive and hit like a truck. Bad hit detection and short reach are slightly better but still not good.
Switch from 4 players on the fly but they share a health bar and play the exact same so it's purely cosmetic.
I wish there was more nuance to the combat.

Has a D&D feel to it. Designed like King of the Dragons or Knights of the Round.

Time traveling SD guys in the medieval past. Love it.

Art Style

Bigger sprites. Well animated. Lots of animation in the background.
2 points off because half the screen is filled with a black bar on bottom and a huge HUD on top which constantly animated "PRESS START" for player 2.

Includes an unbelievably annoying weight system, limiting both what you can carry and what your character can use as a weapon. If you’re overloaded, you are unable to move. After buying a few things at the weapons shop I thought the game was broken. I had to Google it and read about this weight mechanic. So stupid. It makes the game nigh unplayable. Even with a minimal inventory of a knife, a helm, and two food rations I could barely walk.
