Review #11006
Ane-san
Barbie brawler
Gameplay
Slow movement but ridiculously fast attack speed. Enemies barely put up a fight among this a very easy game.
Useless jump kick.
Grand and throws make you vulnerable to attack.
Enemies can attack while being attack which is the only way they ever score a hit.
Hit detection feels off, like you can hit enemies above and below but not when you're too close. It feels weird somehow.
Level Design
Four stages with a level select. Pick from one of the three playable characters to fight that stage. Death sends you back to the stage select screen with that fighter no longer selectable. The stages have almost nothing going for them. One has a segment where girls on mopeds speed by to hit you, but that's the only one that had any environmental hazards. Otherwise it's a standard go to the right brawler.
Theme
Bizarre. It's like a mashup of Barbie, Final Fight, and Grease. I have no idea what this all-girl brawler is going for, but I ain't going with it.
Art Style
The pixel art is decent but there are only a couple of enemy sprites and they're both more or less pallette swaps. Both you and the enemies are chunky ladies in baggy jumpsuits and the environments are straight out of a Barbie playset. Hideous stuff. Technically impressive but hideous all the same.
Audio
The weirdest soundtrack ever. Most of the songs sound like a Sixties pop songs, complete with ooing and ahhing vocals. It's really strange.
