Baby Jo the Superhero for PCE CD
Review #11009
Baby Jo the Superhero
Oh Baby
Gameplay
The most floaty controls in a platformer. It takes, no joke, three seconds to complete a jump. Jump. One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three Mississippi. Land.
No i-frames.
Only one way to attack, via a projectile with an arch far too tall and long and a miniscule hitbox. Oh and limited ammo. It may as well not be available at all.
The gameplay is technically not a complete trainwreck, but I will never touch this game again.
Level Design
Just like the gameplay, the level designs are just good enough that I can't completely vilify them. But they're too long, feature terrible enemy placement and frequent blind jumps. And a time limit. However, the platforming isn't terrible, despite the awful controls.
Theme
You're a baby avoiding snakes, lightning clouds, open fires, lava pits, and killer spiders. Collectible pickups include baby rattles, milk bottles, and diapers. Who thought that would be cool?
Art Style
Has that patented Amiga look. The baby is pure nightmare fuel, complete with an unsettling mugshot for your health meter. Tons of graphics glitches found out the awful artwork.
Audio
The music has decent composition but it's too upbeat for the slow pace of the game and uses annoying sounds which match the juvenile theme but reduce its appeal. The sound effects are mute worthy.
