Gameplay

Massive improvement over the first game (Trouble Shooter). There again aren't many powerups but between you, your backwards friend, and an option above you, there's plenty of firepower to go around.
The gimmick is still to have a second character behind you who takes no damage but can be turned to shoot forward or backward.
The action is fast although enemies mostly move in predetermined patterns and can be avoided as well as they can be defeated. Most take a lot of damage but as you can deal it out in spades this doesn't get annoying.
Enemy bosses are a highlight, with segmented bodies and other tricks to make you move around the screen a lot.

Level Design

Levels are fun but uninspired. The ability to turn around isn't leveraged enough, in my opinion.

Theme

Goofy anime girls, but a little more fan service than the first game. Cutscenes tell the minimal story, and there's a translation patch so yay it's in English!

Art Style

Really nice sprites and a good variety of enemies. Another big improvement over the first game. In fact it looks almost as good as the Konami games like Contra Hard Corps, TMNT, Gunstar Heroes, and Rocket Knight Adventures. Almost.

Audio

Another massive improvement over the first game. The music is pumping and sounds are great as well. Not top tier, but close.
