Gameplay

The initial impression is good, but doesn't take long to wear off. You have a simple Vulcan gun that can't be upgraded or improved, enemies are damage sponges, and you can't turn around to face left! Your mech jump and hover for a short time, although this is rarely helpful since enemies zoom around faster than you can keep up with and again are damage sponges. Plus, running into most enemies causes massive damage to you.
Your health automatically recharges but at a very slow rate that conflicts with the short stage timer. Infinite continues but the difficulty is through the room, primarily due to the terrible controls and weak weapon.
Oh and to top it all off this game suffers greatly from slowdown.

Level Design

There are five short stages which have to be completed within a short time limit. They have cosmetic differences but have the exact same design - a straight hallway. I appreciate the cosmetic differences, but only from a graphical perspective. Design-wise this is one of the most boring level design imaginable.

Theme

Mechs! Virtually all text and even voice acting is in English, despite being a Japan-only release. The cutscenes and voices and atmosphere ooze sci-fi attitude.

Art Style

Awesome mech designs, explosive effects, and parallax scrolling. One of the best looking PC Engine titles.

Audio

Great music and loud, crunchy sound effects.
