Gameplay

Generic as could be.

8 way movement and very fast speed is nice, but when combined with the awful Falcom movement you've got a frustrating experience. Entering doors or talking to people is an absolute chore.

Terrible draw distance

This game has the strangest random battles algorithm. Certain spots spawn enemies without needing to move. Others have no encounters at all, even when running around for extended periods of time. And some areas inexplicably have a enemies right there on screen to run into. It's so weird.

Like so many of these games, grinding is 90% of the experience. And forget about healing magic or items because they're too expensive to be worth your time.

The only good thing I'll mention is that you auto-heal when earning a level up.

No QTB - strictly turn based, without any interesting mechanics.

Level Design

Paint by numbers stage design with absolutely no freedom or opportunity to explore or think for yourself. Potential party members even tell you what level you need to be at before they'll join your party. Braindead design

Theme

The story is generic - you're a prince, bad guy killed your parents and kidnapped your girl, you're no the run and seeking revenge. Get em tiger. The only saving grace, if you can call it this, is the so-bad-it's-good voice acting and on-the-nose humor. It's not Working Design silly, but it's close.

Art Style

In a word: awful
Tiny viewport in overview.
Battle view is 8-bit quality. Looks like one of the first three DQ or FF games on NES.
NES sized sprites with no details.

Audio

Elevator music isn't my cup of tea. The voice acting isn't just bad - the sound quality itself is awful. It sounds like the actors were recording their lines in a large bathroom. The fake accents are pur cringe.
