Gameplay

Unplayable, just like the original. I crashed so often that I couldn't qualify for a single race or even finish a qualifying attempt.

Level Design

Only one mode and no meaningful customization. Tracks are all the same - go straight, turn left or right, straighten out, repeat. The only change from the previous title is that there are a few different kinds of turns. Exciting.

Minimal presentation but slightly improved from the original. Mostly Japanese text.

Poor pixel art but great sense of speed. Excellent framerate.

Music is a highlight, even if it's unmemorable.

Includes an unbelievably annoying weight system, limiting both what you can carry and what your character can use as a weapon. If you’re overloaded, you are unable to move. After buying a few things at the weapons shop I thought the game was broken. I had to Google it and read about this weight mechanic. So stupid. It makes the game nigh unplayable. Even with a minimal inventory of a knife, a helm, and two food rations I could barely walk.
