Links - The Challenge of Golf
The slowest version of the slowest game
Gameplay
Another one of these PC ports, with a mouse cursor being moved around the screen to set direction, club, spin, and power. Your direction is set using arrows to choose something like 4L or 1R. After choosing thie value you must click a "Rotate" button which then takes about 10 seconds to refresh the screen. It's SO SLOW. In fact everything in this game is painfully slow. This is the anti-arcade golf game.
Onec you figure out the Swing mechanic, the gameplay isn't a total trainwreck, but it's miles away from being fun. And putting is an absolutely awful experience. Hard pass on this one.
Level Design
Solo (18 or 9 holes), Tournament, Practice any hole, or Driving on any hole. As if anyone would want to do any of this.
Theme
So, so stuffy. A commentator with a thick Australian accent introduces every hole in a long FMV flyover and then announces everything that happens. "On the green" "Par" "Let's take a look at the scorecard"
True blue PGA fans of a certain age might like this. Not me.
Art Style
Barf. In trying to look realistic, this game winds up looking like a pixelated mess. The technology wasn't ready guys.
Audio
What audio? There's no music whatsoever. Just some ambient bird noises now and then.
