Gameplay

Far better controls than the first game, but not without faults. My main complaint is that it's so dang boring. Just like the first game, all you can do is jump and run. No powerups and no abilities. Also, the controls are laggy making the game eat inputs. The best tactic is to jump slightly too early. Enemies follow set patterns and can be bopped, but most have chaotic paths and are hard to hit.

Level Design

The same find-all-the-stuff to end the stage nonesense prevelant in so many Western games. I hate this design philosophy with a passion. Many stages, including the first one, are obtuse puzzles with warps that throw you around the small but carved up area. Some platforming sections are quite good, like the slides on the waterfall, but most of it is frustrating and samey.

Theme

Smurfs. And hey, you can play as Smurfette, so win win. Not much personality beyond the one sprite though.

Art Style

Step down from the SNES version. Colors are tinted-red. Backgrounds, the best part of the SNES graphics, have fewer layers of parallax and are generally less interesting. Still good artwork, but mid.

Audio

My poor ears. Despite teasing you a few notes of the cartoon theme song during the opening cutscene, the in-game music is the chiptune equivalent of a five year old whisper-singing la-la-la in your ear. Make it stop.
