Gameplay

Faster movement than the first game, but the jump feels horribly floaty. Best to stay grounded except when absolutely necessary.
Collect four weapons (normal, wave, sort of homing, and 3 way).
No double jump, as in the Genesis remake.
Most enemies go down quickly but in later levels they're bullet sponges.
There's no draw distance like in the Genesis version, but gameplay still amounts to slowly moving while constantly firing.
Fairly easy game, since there are plentiful health pickups. The only real issue is when enemies get inside your hitbox and stay there, dealing a ton of damage.

Level Design

Pretty simple. Every now and then there's a vertical platforming section to break up the monotony. Mid and end bosses in most levels. Your energy refills after each boss fight.

Theme

Cutscenes tell the story with some ok voice acting. It's fine, I suppose.

Art Style

Better graphics than the Genesis remake, although the style is very different. This one looks like the other Valis games, while the remake had SD/chibi artwork lifted from a completely different game. I don't like the main character's sprite is hunched over. She's standing tall in the other games in the series so I don't understand why she's a hunchback here.

Audio

Vast improvement over the Genesis version. The music is lively and well composed, although it's a bunch of woodwind instruments without any bass. Still, I'm a fan. Sound effects aren't great.
