Mickey's Ultimate Challenge for SNES

Review #339

Mickey's Ultimate Challenge

This game is, to Magical Quest, what Mario is Missing is to Super Mario World.

Gameplay

I remember playing this game all the way through a few years ago. No idea why I would do such a thing other than to satisfy my curiosity. But the fact that I stuck with it to the end says something. It's at least playable.
This game is, to Magical Quest, what Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine are to Super Mario World.
Controls are slow as molasses but there's not much platforming to do so it's fine. At least they're nice and responsive.

Level Design

Five simple but entertaining minigames.
1. CLARA BELL - Spell a word by jumping on a series of alternating up and downdrafts of open books.
2. HUEY, DEWEY, LOUIE - Simon says (repeat the pattern)
3. GOOFY - Guess the pattern. I could play this game all day long.
4. DAISY - Memory
5. DONALD - Top down puzzle like Adv of Lolo. Another fun diversion
Last one is a sliding puzzle. Not my favorite but whatever.

Theme

Mickey and Minnie are fine. Pretty generic "it was all a dream" premise but at least that isn't revealed at the end like it's an M. Night Shyamalan twist.

Art Style

Some rather creative visuals, like the reflection of Donald on the floor while you're shrunk and moving bottles around.
Tiny sprites but great animation.
Backgrounds are pretty blah

Audio

Annoying song that plays on loop is the only music. Sounds are awful, like the farting noise that plays when you get something wrong.
