Troy Aikman NFL Football

Good luck making a tackle

Genre: sports - football

Publisher: Tradewest

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Madden-esque gameplay. No zoom in cams for the receivers. Their button hovers over their head before and during the play. Difficult to complete passes other than long bombs. Biggest complaint is the wonky hit detection that makes it nearly impossible to make a tackle. Players just bounce off and around other players so even if you square up and dive into a guy he often swims around you as he falls and gains 5 extra yards. It's hard to explain but it just feels like you have almost no control over plays while they're in motion.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Cool feature where you can change the design of a play, like the starting position of each skill player. Let's you play a season or the 93/94 season Does a good job of keeping stats. Games are insanely long. I swear each play only takes about 10 seconds off the clock so the default length of 5 min per quarter is way too long.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

NFL license allows you to play as real teams. But I hate the Cowboys so points off for having Troy Aikman on the title screen

Art Style Score: 1

Art Style Notes:

Decent sprites but bad animation. The field and other assets are more rez, especially the crowd which is laughably bad. It's a single tile stretched about 10x as big as it should be.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Ok sounds
